TRIGGERS

As a horror author, it is important to note my books are provocative by nature, however, we should always be careful not to go too far. Below is a list of graphic and sensitive content in my books which may offend and which you should be knowledgeable of before you read. 

(Have I missed anything? Let me know confidentially via email if anything in the books is offensive or harmful and I will correct ASAP)

Important

ELDRITCH NIGHTS

15+

Violence: sci-fi horror violence of boy being fed to monster in opening chapter. Several scenes like this throughout the book. Extremely violent and  extremely upsetting stabbing scene in third act, followed by traumatic murder sequence. A character's death near the end of the book also described in strong gory detail. 

 

Intensity: Main theme very disturbing. Morbid atmosphere throughout. The dreams the main character suffers, in which the monster begs for sacrifices, are especially intense. Burial at sea scene also intense and grim. 

Trauma: Discussion of suicide. Discussion of mental illness. Discussion of child abuse. One of the main characters sent death threats by strangers. Main character being stalked by obsessive university professor. Main character being haunted by ghosts of dead boys.

FIRST HOWL

15+

Violence: opening village raid features intense descriptions of villagers being burned alive in their huts, people killed with shovels, buried in landslides etc. Plenty of bloody medieval battle description. 

Animal cruelty: main character turns into a werewolf and eats various animals including a cow, a cat, a deer, some kittens, several horses etc. The werewolf also kills several tigers in a fight-scene.  Another character kills a sheep by firing it with a catapult, though sheep's death not described. 

Sex: Bloody and traumatic wedding night scene. 

TORN PAGES

Intensity: strong fantasy horror with trees as monsters

 

Violence: numerous fantastical scenes of trees eating people. Two boys are killed by goblin hordes. A gigantic tree-spider eats a boy. A man is set on fire and thrown off a church belfry. Protagonist befriends a boy who turns out to be a serial killer and feeding people to his giant spider. A bloody and violent fight with a rose-bush. Pumpkin monsters near the end of the book are set on fire. 

Animal cruelty: cat eaten by a tree. 

REALM

12+

Intensity: Lots of scenes with sharks and jellyfish. Lots of battle and war scenes. 

IN BLOOM

18+

Sex: Main theme of the book is male virgins being sacrificed to the town dragon. Lots of veiled discussion concerning having sex or lack thereof. For mature readers only 

Violence: Dragon death scenes described in great detail, mauling and burning very graphic. A town square burning scene also vivid. Numerous suicide scenes. Later in the book, various disturbing scenes involving boys with suicide and sexual assault. Final few chapters depict gang rape.  

Trauma: Heavy in-universe transphobia. 

MELANCHOLIA

18+

Sex:  Vampire orgy at book finale with strong fantasy sex

 

Violence: Book's main plot takes place during a steampunk war involving bombs, poison gas etc. Plenty of war description. Main antagonist is god made out of dead body parts.  

WHITEWATER

15+

Horror: Main character transforms for brief periods into great white shark. Strong body horror. Transformations scenes not overly detailed. Plenty of shark scenes and intense underwater scenes

Violence: Main antagonist is eighties-horror-movie-style serial killer. Lots of knife violence and sustained threat during this portion of the book. 

Sex: Some discussion

Trauma: Attempted gang rape 

STAND AND DELIVER

12+

THE PIXIES

12+

Horror: Occasional sci-fi body horror. Villains have eight arms. A night-time woods scene features various disfigured monsters.

 

Trauma: Intense war scenes featuring deaths of civilians. One particularly intense hut interrogation scene. Some in-universe transphobia.  

Trauma: Teenage antagonist obviously modelled off Adolf Hitler. Book has underlying theme of fascism (obviously depicted as negative). Fascistic fantasy sequence in third act begins with quasi-Nazi rally ends with gestapo torture scene. Main character is also an orphan; loss of parents a heavy discussion feature.

Horror: various intense fantasy dream sequences. Mass poisoning sequence, though not intense, early on in book. 

Violence: Plenty of gun violence. School shooting incident early in book. 

THE FALLS

15+

MASQUERADE

Trauma: Loss of parents. Loss of grandparent. Loss of sibling. Fatal housefire scene. Much of the book depicts a dysfunctional family/ domestic abuse. Strong discussion of colonialism/ empire. 

Violence: Whipping scene. Numerous electrocution scenes. Bloody fistfights. Finale very bloody and intense. Gun violence at the start of last act. 

Intensity: Main character spends much of the book believing their brother is going to kill them. Very disturbing and frightening orangutan scene. 

Animal cruelty: Lion drowning scene. Snake thrown in incinerator. Monkeys being shot and bludgeoned. Discussion of dead pet.

TONIGHT

Violence: Numerous archaic (Victorian) gun violence with shootouts and bullets described in detail. Bullet impacts not described in great detail. Fantastical violence with creature horror. 

Intensity: infrequent monster horror. Body horror. Feline transformations.

SALEM TO SALEM

ROSALIE

Violence: Crossbow violence. Hammer violence. Chainsaw violence. Gruesome bloody injury and detail. Vivid hanging scenes. A girl is hung from a clocktower in a bloody and upsetting way. Graphic burning scene at novel's climax

Intensity: Disturbing pig-masks. Intense cave sequences. Intense mansion raid at the book's finale. Claustrophobic scene in the cage very upsetting. In-universe misogyny and in-universe homophobia. 

Sex: Implied but not described in detail. Orgy hinted at. Nudity

Animal cruelty: violent pig deaths implied. A crow is force-fed pills. 

Drug use: LSD. Sleeping pills Grim description of L.A. tunnel with implied drug and alcohol use. 

Violence:  Fantastical vehicular violence. Girl hit by car in first chapter. Hot coffee cup thrown in face (explicitly described). Bleeding and vomiting described in graphic detail. Infrequent gun violence. Young gang members killed with carbon monoxide. Face dissolved in propeller. 

Sex: some (not explicitly described and with unrealistic monster detail).

Intensity: Car crash descriptions. Strong body horror. Girl transforms into car. Boy transforms into fighter-jet. Frequent vomiting. 

ROSALIE RETURNS

Violence: Strong bloody graphic violence. Car-crash detail. Body horror. 

Intensity: monoxide smoke. Vomiting. PTSD theme. War theme. Bombing raids. 

ROSALIE'S REVENGE

Violence: Strong bloody violence throughout. Bodies mangled in car-crashes. Heavy gun violence prevalent. Assault rifle fire. Bloody grenade violence. Heavy discussion of violence. Description of blood splatter. Old lady set on fire. 

Intensity: Vomiting. Monoxide smoke. War Theme. Civilians being shot.  Nuclear War. Incredibly intense and upsetting description of home invasion. General cynical tone. 

Language: some, infrequent.

Drugs: frequent cigarette smoking not presented in a questionable way. Cigarette smoking by teenage protagonist. Underage drinking. 

Horror: Intense sequence in which teenagers are killed by vampires. Man in wheelchair killed by vampire. Not graphically described but very intense. Blood-drinking. Main character bitten by giant gargoyle and turn into gargoyle. Boy drinks from hospital blood bag. Teen juveniles electrocuted and ripped apart by vampires. Teens killed by vampires at drive-in. 

Animal cruelty: prize pig killed by vampires (implied). Rabbits killed by vampires. 

Trauma: man in wheelchair killed by vampire. Reference to Hitler. Reference to the Holocaust. Anti-communist rhetoric. Reference to Hiroshima. Frequent nuclear war references. Mushroom cloud on cover. 

LORD CATERPILLAR

Trauma: Jack the Ripper allusions. Serial killer allusions. Allusions to marital rape. References to Raj and British imperialism. Gambling addition

Horror: giant spider. Giant praying mantis. Giant Silkworm. Various other giant insects. Maids turn into giant flies. Especially unnerving and long spiderweb sequence. 

Phobias: strong presence of insects in this book

Intensity: night terrors main theme of book. Loss and lack of control in sleep some may find triggering. 

Violence: Girl with bleeding neck. Character set on fire. Numerous swordfights. 

Trauma: Discussion of terminal illness. 

Animal cruelty: Prominent dog-death, though not seen. Several cat deaths.
