The Pixies: Paganism

And thus, the pagan themes that began my trip to Oxford with In Bloom reached their dizzying, chaotic peak with The Pixies, a novel that takes seriously the superstitions and gobbledy-gook of a long-lost society. I recently played Assassin's Creed Origins and while it all looked beautiful and everything, walking around, taking in the myths and fascination with the Underworld, what I did think was, "hey, this is all paganism". The obsession with masks. The glorification of death. I would, in actual fact, take death curses and the book of the dead and the wishes of those dead Egyptians seriously; it's their beliefs, and that itself has a powerful aura nobody can take away. When somebody believes something, really believes in it, it creates a vast power that takes on a supernatural presence.
