Introducing Conception

Here is my new book, Conception

This is an idea I've had for a while, a book set inside the Human Body. Knowing this would be science-fiction and quite a lot of science at that, this is why I've been hesitant to write to this book. I've been hesitant to deal with science-fiction for a while. My book Stand and Deliver was a rough time in my life and the general backlash to space-travel in culture has certainly cooled my interest in sci-fi. Sure, there have been a few sci-fi books here and there, such as Rosalie, Toxic, and most sci-fi of all, Not Ok. However, this feels like my most science-heavy book, yet.

That's not to say it isn't violent and bloody-disgusting. This had to be the most disgusting, ickiest book I've ever written. Even more icky than Oedipus. Funnily enough, while I was finishing up editing this, I got a negative review for Oedipus and I thought, you should read this book. All the stuff in Conception is even more nasty.

For instance, people drowning in vomit, people drowning in saliva, people drowning in stomach-acid, even people drowning in coffee, etc., This was the last book I wrote during my twenties (I'm thirty now) and it could be seen as a very nihilistic view of the decade and the choices I made.

Not the choice to abandon my academic studies. Oh no, I'm talking about the decision to do the academic studies in the first place. That basically swallowed up most of the decade, up to when I was twenty-six, and it was a horrible time. Now that I'm out of university, and I'm in full-time work, things aren't perfect. But you have to look at the last book for real I wrote while in education, Rosalie's Revenge, and consider the nihilism, the nuclear war, femicide, etc., and how upsetting and dark that book is.

This is a dark book and in places, is quite upsetting. But, crucially, at the end there is grace and there is hope. Weirdly, I think the end is quite religious in how, at the end, God saves you. That's what this book feels like.
