In Bloom: German Language

I received a lot of criticism for my sprinkling -- or rather, skewering -- of German in this book. I believe the actual quote was: "the worst murder of the German language I have ever witnessed in my life". I didn't speak much German when I wrote the book, and the use of German here is clearly satirical. Come on, there's a "die! Fledermaus!" joke. There's also a joke earlier in the book where someone confuses "nein" with "nine". It's not a serious book. It's not a serious use of German.
