Salem to Salem: Los Angeles

It's ironic the last time I went to the States, I was writing this book about Los Angeles. Well, Salem to Salem is mostly set in a Massachussets colony but the book's big twist is that Billy Peddlarson and the colony council are from 1960s' L.A. The last time I went to the US, I went to Chicago and wrote maybe only a few pages of this book over there as I was only going there for a few days; these were the pages where Abigail is going through Annabel's letters and seeing how she looked in her neighbour's eyes as the colony witchfinder.

Now, as I'm actually heading to L.A., for the very first time in my life, this book weighs on my mind. I was so angry, livid, when I wrote that book but for those few days when I flew to Chicago, I calmed down and my life was full of wonder. In fact, I only really got incredibly anger during the final few chapters of this book later in the summer, angry for Abigail.

Now, I'm taking Abigail's journey only instead of going through a time-loop, I'm taking a plane. The L.A. I'll arrive in won't be the one I wrote about in my book, but I'm sure there will be a sense of wonder a sense of danger whatever happens. When I wrote about Abigail's adventures in L.A., I reached for Shakespeare, The Tempest, ("be not afeared, the isle is full of noises"), but I suppose when I got to L.A., I'll be reaching for this book and its story of a very stange journey.
