In the UK, Margaret Thatcher, our PM from 1979-1990 looms large over our culture; some would say she casts a malevolent shadow. In any case, she casts a shadow. She is History. Certainly, she is a Presence. The PM in Presence, Elizabeth Chaplin, Carrie's mum, is based off Margaret Thatcher (what? No! You reckon?). I loosely based her off Thatcher as MT didn't have a hesitancy towards Environmentalism and actually took it seriously. My own personal thoughts on Thatcher come close to the sentiment of "it is what it is". Thatcher is history now. You can't undo history now. That last sentence shouldn't be seen as a rebuke to socialists. On the contrary, I was very intrigued by our last opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn's stated intention to "undo Thatcher's Legacy" and the last act of Presence imagines somewhat what that might look like.
