Salem to Salem: The Cage

The emotional height of Salem to Salem occurs when Abigail is accused of witchcraft, the entire town turns against her, and she is put in a cage and lifted her above the town before the church. The symbolism is clear: she is being crucified. She is a Christ figure throughout the book, someone who saves the town from evil, and at the end, she is put in a cage and held up high above Woodstock which carries on life as normal. Those scenes of Abigail thrashing around in the cage as the street belows prepares for bed-time are some of the most painful and personal that I've ever written.
